Yeah, sounds like you just need to refine your technique. The edge itself may play a role--I find diamond paste edges to be overly harsh, for example.

Glad I saw this thread as I have a shave ready on its way-
I am trying to learn to start my hold of the blade very very lightly, like one might a butterfly and only tighten as necessary so if the blade get dull (gads-I mean less sharp) it will stop before I can push it and feed a vampire.
