Finally got my razor
My $60 razor from Bob's Raxors finally showed up. What a difference from the old antique store razors that I have been trying to hone and get shave ready. While I see that I still have a lot of practice to do I can also see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was able to do so much better with this razor than with the ones that I was using before. It was definitely the razor and not all me
Now I just have to work on that angle...

It is 'Geneva Cutlery Company - Geneva New York'. He was not sure how old it is, but it sure does look nice. While I'm no judge of a razor, this razor has an edge like nothing I have seen yet and shows almost no wear. It's an amazing difference over what I have been playing with.
All those cuts and razor burn for nothing...

There's a razor club for those blades here:

Genco (Geneva Company) was a trademark of the Geneva Cutlery Company, and they're great shavers. Post a pic either here or in the razor club.

Finally Got My Razor
Hello, Spinsheet:
Well, indeed, congratulations. Now the fun begins as you hone your skills. Don't forget, part of the pleasures of straight razor shaving is the journey: the experimentation and the improvisation. Throw the clock away and delight in the journey.

spinsheet,
Congratulations...You can't go wrong with Bob. I have purchased seversl str8 razors from him, including an Engels and Dubl Duck, and have never been disappointed. He is very friendly as well as helpful. They are both featured razors in some of my past SOTD posts.

After about a week of using the razor I must say that I am pleased. I do have a few questions though.
The shave is still not as close as with my DE; however, with the DE I also go WTG and then ATG, with the straight I am only going WTG. I saw on one of Lynn's videos that one WTG pass is all that he does. What about the rest of you? Can I eventually get to the point where one pass (WTG) will equal what I can do with two passes (WTG & ATG) with my DE?
I'm also playing with different lather consistencies. I am using shave soap from Crabtree & Evelyn and am playing around with more and less water. I find that using a lot less water maked for a more luxurious lather but it also is drying out quicker and I found that the razor then is scraping dried lather off my face. Any one else experience this?
Anyway, it's all fun and I'm enjoying the journey

Finally got my razor
Hello spinsheet:
The number of passes you use depends on various considerations: skill, technique, stretching, type of beard and its directional complexities, and so on. Each shaver faces different obstacles.
For me, one pass will never work because of my heavy beard and the crazy directions in which it grows, especially on the neck. I do three passes, sometimes four on the neck. You, however, will develop your own patterns. Take your time and experiment.
There is no dictum requiring certain number of passes. Do what works best for you.
