    JL,

At this point, I still get my best complete shave with a DE. With the straight, I can get my cheeks as smooth as glass, but I still have a bit of difficulty with my neck. Part of this is angle, and part of this is I am learning to use a straight with my left hand. Since day one, I have shaved with a straight using only my right hand. Now that I am comfortable with the razors, I want to use them properly.

    Randy,
Sadly I can't take credit for "Satan's Razor". Some guy on Shave My Face already coined it and what an observant Gentleman he must be <g>. The exposure on that thing is wicked.

    Randy,
I tried "Satan's Razor" ( Merkur Slant bar) for my neck this morning. No blood loss and less irritation than my other Merkurs. Actually one of the best shaves I have had. Satan's razor my butt! Satan is a baby! This thing rocks.

(used with merkur blades only.......all bets are off if you try a feather DE blade)

I said exactly the same thing! I'll wait for report #2 and #3! I'm not shaving today because of shave #2. It was close and smooth, and my neck got very irritated...too much confidence!

With a feather blade, at least a new one, you need to even use negative pressure - lift the blade off your face and use less than the weight of the razor.

Those things are wicked sharp, though. Sheesh.

Jeff, if you ask me and Tony...you'll get a very positive response. I have the HD Classic (two actually, just acquired one for my son for his graduation dopp kitt), a long handled open comb, the Progress and now the Slant. I'm looking for a Futur, but have no desire to graduate to the Vision. That's the short list...wait until Tony replies!

I have a Merkur travel DE with comb bar and it is absolutely my favorite. I have been thinking about also getting the HD, but since I travel so much and I have no complaints at all with my travel razor, I think I am going to stick with it.

I havent used any of the adjustables, and I just dont believe in them, I like the simple versions the best...they just work and they work equally well all the time, no settings to change, break, or slip.

Randy and I had the smak down of DE razors in another thread. Looked like an even draw when all was said and done with each of us having far more DE's than any man needs.

Of course yesterday I got my Slant Bar and a Vision is on the way. Other than Merkur travel razors I think I have one of everything they make.

I use a straight exclusively on my face and downward passes on my neck but the DE razors are for upward passes on my neck, travel and those days when not feeling well and and having a lack of concentration so I know to stay away from a straight razor.

Other than the short handles I prefer the Merkur 1904 series, bot open and closed comb.
