I used to wonder the same thing. Another factor is that you are probably taking off more skin cells with a DE or Str8 and that leaves your face feeling a little different as well.

Our perceptions are relative not absolute.

So I think it could also be because your shave with a DE is closer so you notice a change sooner when the stubble just starts to come out. Easier to feel the jump from smooth to a little stubble.

With a cartridge the shave is not as close so the stubble has to grow longer before you notice a difference in its length. Otherwise it is a little stubble to a little more stubble. Harder to notice the difference.

If you guys obsess about this shaving thing too much pretty soon you'll wake up in the morning thinking you've grown a full beard overnight and you'll find yourself wanting to shave several times a day. You know like the guy who keeps washing his hands 50 times a day because every time he looks at them he sees dirt.

Thanks for reminding me, I've got some stubble comming in that I've got to take care of.

If you're willing to work at it, you can get that clean-feeling shave with any razor. That's why I define closeness by how long it takes before you just begin to feel the stubble come back. It lets you make a consistent comparison between razors, blades, different creams, whatever.
