Default The Downside of SR Shaving

Now that I've started shaving with a straight, and really enjoy it, I only have to shave about half as often . I gave myself a half-assed shave today, just so I could justify doing it tomorrow before I left.

Oh god yes I'm there. Every day I wish I could shave again.
I may just have to start shaving the rest of me just to get satisfied.

I just have to ask the following question - What is it
with straights that make it such as obsession?
While I enjoyed my DE I wasn't hanging around a forum
or talking on a chat room. In fact I had never been on
a chat room and had no desire to do so. Now I look
    forward to it.

I can say that I feel a sense of pride in shaving with a
straight. I suppose that its a result of doing something
    few men actually do.

Your last sentence nailed it. There was a time when men didn't need to be babied with a "safety" razor. They took the time to learn a skill which they needed often (or went to a specialist (a barber) who had that skill). Now, very few barbers still have that skill. It is, for lack of a better term, romantic. Nostalgic may be a better term. On top of that, it's a chance to relax, reflect, and unwind. Impresses the hell out of people, too. Doesn't hurt that you get a much better shave, either. Men aren't the barbarians the feminazi movement has made us out to be, and we enjoy a "facial", too. We just do it with 3 inches of laser-sharp steel. It appeals to our mechanical, "handy" side. And hey, if you cut yourself, chicks dig scars.

About wishing I could shave more? NO
About shaving the rest of my body, I hope so!

You guys are really too much! Imagine if you could go back to say 1880 and tell someone how in the 21st century you would be obsessing about shaving with a straight like this. They would probably lock you away somewhere for good (and take your razor away).

You're probably right, but then again, they didn't have to be babied the way the modern man seems to be. For them, us celebrating shaving with a straight would've been celebrating something very banal and ordinary. Everything old is new again, in this brave new world which we have inherited.
