    Default No More DE Touch-ups

After months of experimentation and needing to clean up with a DE, I am finally able to get BBS without the DE clean-up.

This is big for me personally, because I always felt like I was cheating. No more!

    Great fealing!

I encourage everyone to have patience with it. It will come.

    Congrats!

I didn't feel like a true "straight razor shaver" until I completely ditched the Mach 3. Now I don't even know where that thing is anymore...

Was this just practice? What do you attribute this new found ability?

    Cool !!!
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Congratulations!!
It's a great feeling-and i know what you mean about the guilt thing-but keep the D/E handy -during the week when I didnt have time to shave with the straight - the D/E did what it's good for-10 min shave start to finish!!!
    Regards

Practice was a big part of it. The areas of my neck right below my jawline have the wiskers growing horizontally toward the center. I was never able to get a good shave in this area because of the angle I would have had to hold the blade.

The real breakthough came last week. I described what I was doing in a thread called "Back to the Basics". During this time I started to do two things naturally. The first is the scything motion. I am using this on my XTG passes with great success. The second is the holding of the blade where the heel of the blade is behind the toe so the blade is maybe at a 20 degree angle. This allows the blade to slice the whisker very easily as I make the pass. I know these are techniques that are talked about here, but I never tried them consciously. They just started happening on their own when I slowed down to do some analysis of my shave.

Because my XTG pass has improved so much, I can now do a full ATG with my straight, which before I was doing with the DE.

    So that's my story.

    David
