Thread: one arm shave?

The wife is too scared to try a shave on me. i wont have use of my left arm for a couple weeks then after that only limited movement for several weeks after. any suggestions? typing one handed is being challenging.

You'll probably want a DE quickly. but you can skip stretching the skin in a pinch once your practiced. Takes a little differing skill set but I think you can do it and get an acceptable shave. I'd grow a goatee during the week probably and let the wife help with skin stretching on occasion. Again, a DE would be all too tempting in this situation.

be careful if you have always used both hands.

If you can't achieve the results that you want
with the straight......use a DE until you regain
use of your left arm.

I don't have any experience with DE's, so my opinion isn't worth much here. The segment on NBC back around Christmas 2004 when ClassicShaving was mentioned, the guy showing off products used one and it looks pretty simple.

The dreaded Mach-III might be the way to go -- it's a fairly bulletproof solution. I'd say stay away from the Shick Quattro as it doesn't shave as well as the Mach-III. The new Fusion is too pricey to mess with. You might be able to shave without stretching the skin, ala facial yoga, if you want to stick with the straight.

I love my straight razors and hate shaving with anything else. Your straight razors may be the fuel that drives your physical therapy & rehab program. What did you do to your shoulder?

Pick up a package of Bic Sensitive Disposables, and, if you can find them, Bic Metals. On the DE forums, these are the preferred disposable razors for traveling, since DE blades are not allowed with carry on luggage. One package of either of these will take you through your two weeks of down time. Use one for 2-3 shave, and toss it!

Ohhhhhhh, it is a dark day indeed when members start to suggest to use anything less than a DE. My, my, . . . Bics! Fusions! Mach III's! What are those?

Get a nice DE. They are easy and safe and a pleasure to use and will compliment your shaving goodies that you already have.

I agree that a nice DE is a great way to go, but it sounds like FUD is already short the use of his arm. If his situation is like mine, there is not a store here in town to run to and pick up a DE. But "them disposables are a plenty"! I'm thinkin' once FUD is again drinkin' two fisted, he won't be using anything but a straight anyway.

Uh oh yeah, shaving. You're quite right, but the DE is a great tool to have in your back pocket for just such an emergency...

Aye, Nothin but straights for me gents. The DE's and disposables are all plausible solutions but I'd rather just grow a beard until I can shave myself If I have to. Good news is I've already got use of my fingers back so I can type semi-2handed. I can't raise my arm at all and the Dr and therapist think it will be a few weeks before I can do any movement enough for shaving so I'll just go bearded for a while. It's still cold enough here that I can get a way with that for a bit.

Besides, the wife hates the beard so maybe that will encourage her to pamper me a bit .

I may try today or tomorrow to do a one armed shave. We'll see.

I'd recommend to pamper yourself and go to a local barbershop for a straight shave! If there's ever been a good reason to get a shave at a barbershop, this is it.
