I've found that shipping to Europe/UK negates the value. For razors you're better off finding something on ebay in your region than trying for a free one from U.S.

There's a bloke on ebay that's in Germany that sells razors. I can't recall his name but even for a free razor, if you cover cost of shipping from U.S. you'll do better getting a decent razor from him. There are several good razors in the U.K. that you gents can get from ebay. I remember a thread before where Lynn mentioned that you also want to search on "cutthroat".

Here's an item # for an ebay razor in UK 6616677232.

here's an item # for an ebay razor in germany 6616819119. This one ends in 13 hours from my post here.

But do an advanced search for "straight razor" or "razor" with items located in the country of your choice.

As for sharpening, if there's no senior member from here in your area just buy a few junk razors from ebay and practice honing using the methods discussed here. It's not as nice as having a razor readily usable but it sure beats spending $30.00 u.s. shipping one way just to get a razor that's sharpened that you could have gotten for a third of the cost from your area.

USPS Airmail service ships to Europe for 5$ USD per razor... I've done that numerous times with no problems so far. I also don't pay customs, just ~1.5$ for repacking (customs checking), and it's delivered to my door...

To all who replied..very friendly forum and many thanks for all advice.

Hope I have not jumped too soon, but have just ordered the beginners hone set from Tilly(nice lady)..have a strop..razor I have I think I have destroyed, tried honing before reading this forum using a normal hone..so

Have my eye on a few razors on ebay at present but unsure how good or bad they are...and embarrasing enough a number of members on this board are bidding...so I dont really wish to "compete" halwilson is on at least 3 of them.

Again thanks for all help and advice.

You MAY still be able to save it. If you just dulled the blade without chipping it, you should be able to hone it with some extra elbow-grease. If you chipped it, then you can still use it as a practice piece for honing, but you'll have to get yourself a new blade to actually shave with.

    Irish,

Don't let the fact that members are bidding stop you from bidding. In fact the fact that members are bidding is a good thing, it shows you have made a good choice of a razor to bid on. The reality of the situation is you are probably doing us a favor as we are too addicted to buying razors anyway.

I'm in on a couple as well. One would be a perfect mate for the DOVO handle and the other would be great on its own. Not providing any details until the auctions are over
