Thanked: 8Before shaving?
Gentlemen,
You've shaved, dried and oiled your razor and put it away.
When you next use it do you wipe the oil off before stropping the blade?

Thanked: 267I have a small barbers towel sitting next to the sink and when I take out the razor I do a quick "strop" on the towel. I then strop my razor on leather then set it back on the towel while I make lather. The towel is a safety zone that I use to set the razor down while I lather between passes. The towel also protects my razor from any hard surfaces.
Take Care,
Richard

Two things ... absolutely remove the oil before next use. Recommend a piece of toilet tissue or kleenex ... cotten towels can dull your edge if you accidentally hit it (per Lynn), whereas the tissue won't so much. And I'm sure everyone knows per common sense stroke from spine to edge so you don't affect the cutting edge.

ballistol
i just got a new razor and it came with a little bottle of a liquid called ballistol.
The package is all in german but it has a picture of various metal stuff like guns and engines on it so i assume it can be safe as a oil on the razor right?
Has anyone used this before? if so is it a good oil to use on my razors?Shaving_story on Instagram

Basil,
Ballistol is mineral oil with a variety of other things added:
From Wikipedia:
- pharmaceutical white oil: CAS RN 8042-47-5
- Oleic Acid CAS RN 112-80-1
- C-5 alcohols: CAS RN 78-83-1; CAS RN 137-32-6; CAS RN 100-51-6
- different essential oils to perfume Ballistol
IIRC it is certified for use on food manufacturing machinery.
Wipe it off with paper towel before you use your razor.
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
