    Default Oiling razor

I have read several posts on here and seen a lot about people oiling their razor before putting it away. My question is, i currently only own two razors but i do not oil them before putting them away. If I am only using two razors and they have a max of 5 days down time is it necessary for me to oil my blades? If so what type of oil should i use? and where can it be purchased?

Also a side note, there appears to be some spots on my my razor on the spine and the face of the blade, they do not appear to be rust but they will not merely wipe off with a towel or rinse off, any idea what that is?

    Default Oil

Use mineral oil, not a vegtable-based oil. You can buy it at Walmart or any Pharmacy. It's often in the laxatives section.

ps: The spots are probably water spots. Staining and rust are both oxidation. Rust is just more of it (typically aided by more water).

Inox - its food grade, and sits well on the razor. Can get at hard ware stores or autoshops.

As said spots are beging of rust in a way. I live near the beach so if its gonna be more than two days i oil, all that salt in the air ....
So if you've got the stuff on hand and its gonna be close to a week plus, may as well oil them, not much effort, just put a bit on a tissue and rub on. Just make sure your going away from the cutting edge.

I use mineral oil daily, no matter how often I use my blade. I've calculated recently that it costs me $0.007/day to keep my razors oiled. Cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.

For hard to reach areas, I roll up some toilet paper so that it's pointy enough to get into nooks and crannies.

Use either of the oils recommended in previous posts, such as Camelia or Mineral oil to maintain your blade.

Its not necessary to oil your razor after every use, perhaps only 1-2 times per week. Of course, if you want to do so every day, then by all means do so.

As for the dark spots...Those are water spots that are staining your blade. The occasional oiling won't remove the spots that re already there, but should keep additonal spots to a minimum.

baby oil, to my knowledge, is just mineral oil with a bit of fragrance added. You should be fine since I don't think that they would add a fragrance that would make a baby's skin irritated, so should be fine on a razor...
