As for oil to keep it from rusting, the general suggestion around here is mineral oil.

Where is the soap and brush?
In my opinion, the first step for any new razor is to lightly oil the
pivot (mineral oil) and then shave test it. If the out of the box shave
is not up to snuff strop it correctly and then try it once more.
If the second try is not up to snuff get it honed.
A shave test need only visit one or even part of a cheek, no need to
give yourself a full face bad shave ;-)
The expectation here is that it will be a little to a lot shy of
what we tend to require of a razor. Vendors do read the web
and are constantly working to keep their customers happy so
you may be pleased.
I saw some honemaster names pass by, make a list.... All good
as best I know, also check services in the classified. If you have to ask
the first step is almost always send it out for a professional
honing.
When you get it back use the same shave test sequence.
i.e. do not strop it but give it a shave test right out of the box first.
