    Maybe shaving with a "slant?" I do this naturally by the way I hold the razor most comfortably, especially across the chin. I don't cut myself and the comfortable hold I believe not only facilitates cutting through the denser part of my beard but also (for me) results in a safer shave. Methinks this is probably more an issue of accepted nomenclature than technique.
