Ill go ATG on the upper lip when I really want a close one. Love doing advanced shaving techniques, you have to concentrate a little more than normal but its a nice change from the norm. Love the coupe de maitre.

I'm doing ATG only on my upper lip.
Dunno why but that place is where I "need" to have BBS.

Thanked: 121ATG upper lip was always my ultimate test for blade sharpness. Some razors made the cut, others didn't. But it was the only way I could get BBS there.
No matter how sharp the blade, though, I had to preface an ATG pass with WTG, then two XTG, then 2 passes about 20 degrees off true ATG. It took forever.
Then I grew a goatee. Now my morning shave takes 20 minutes instead of 50 because all my "problem areas" have been eliminated, but I do miss not having my ultimate test for sharpness. Seems like most any blade does the job now, though I am beginning to get a feel for relative sharpness by checking onder my chin, below my jawline, etc.
I'd still probably ditch the goatee, except I've gotten dozens of comments from the other sex, all very, very positive. Yeah, I'm easy.

First pass, coup de maitre/N-S.
Second pass, E-W
Third Pass, W-E
Fourth pass, there is no fourth pass. I actually get DFS+ on third pass.
The only part of my face which has had no ATG is the upper lip and i see no reason to change that.

I'll swipe ATG everyplace except upper lip. I think that's because the whiskers are so tough and closely spaced there on me. In fact the ONLY time I've ever gotten that area comfortably ATG was with a blade Sham honed - man that guy can keen up a blade! So I guess for me, I'll go ATG on my upper lip but only with a blade that's so keen it will make a hair fall over silently - all sharp blades will pop a hair - a really keen one makes it simply fall over out of fear.
