i often let me eyes wander while im doing my neck - i dont think its that crazy an idea and i can see the benefits of learning by touch. i will try it but not just yet, once i have more experience under my belt. good suggestion.

I have a razor that I can do that with!
I also have several that I definitely wouldn't try it with at all!!!!

I suppose the answer to "Why?" is because it's an understanding of how steady I am with the blade and how good my sense of touch is with the razor. Do I rely on my eyes to tell my pressure (visual of glide of the skin, angle of my wrist in the mirror, how much lather loads on the blade) or am I actually letting the razor do its full job. It doesn't seem like a bad idea to me considering I'm the one controlling the blade at all times. If I'm self-aware then it's not that much of a risk.
I also wonder how a blind person would have shaved with a straight razor when that's all that was available. I know people did it so it wasn't impossible.

I am among those who believes that just because one has legs doesn't mean one should run with scissors. (Mother would be proud)

I've tried a few times. Sometimes I peek. I never try to get it perfect, just enough to have the look of a shaved person. I don't do the mustache part.
I figer if I was blind I'd have a mustache anyway so i'm not cheating.
I do it for insight

Just in case you ever lose your eyesight....I gave it a go this morning. It can be done, but it's bloody 'slowly does it mate'. I didn't do the whole face. I didn't allow the extra time to experiment in full. I won't be trying it again though, but it's nice to know I could do it, IF it was really necessary. As Paul said...Too much stupid...Eventually someone would get hurt and that would be me.

I remember reading somewhere in SRP some time ago that there was a gent that used to shave without the aid of a mirror.
Practically the same, no?

Thanked: 1371When I shave my head I do the back of it by touch. It never occurred to me to try that on my face.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I recall someone saying that one of the best things you can do for yourself is learn to shave without a mirror.
That said, this noob uses a mirror with plenty of light every time!
