Default 17 year olds first shave!

Hi All! Just some bragging rights! My 17 year old son just completed his first complete straight razor shave! Not a single cut, nick or razor burn! He used a German made razor that I purchased from Eric. (Eric, thanks for all the help and advice!) I will admit that his beard isn't very heavy but I've told him that as his beard comes in, he will be learning how to deal with it much easier! I had stropped the razor, but he wanted to start to learn how, so I showed him and he very gently stropped on the leather while I whipped up the lather and heated the wet towel. I'm so proud of him! I just had to share with the straight razor shaving world! Hell! I forgot to mention that he can use both hands! One Up on DAD!

Congratulations! What a neat thing to share with your son.

I'm glad to hear things are going well for both of you.

    Default Very cool

How cool is that? Not to get too philosophical, but learning a traditional man's skill from your father is a fine and fitting way to be really introduced into adulthood. History, care and thoughtfulness with a potentially dangerous piece of steel, self-reflection and pride in one's appearance all fit just so well. I hope that someday (many years from now ) I can do the same thing with my sons!

I do know the feeling of sharing straight shaving with your son. Congrats on getting to give it a try. You both now have another very special bond and something to share. My son and I shave, hone and restore razors together. When I'm gone hopefully he will look back at our time together with fond memories. Your son may do the same.

Now you'll have another family member with RAD, HAD and the rest of the straight razor AD's.

Congrats, man! That's just way cool. I wish I could get my son (24) interested, but he harldy ever shaves, even--but lately his girlfriend has been putting the arm on him to dress better when he takes her out and to shave more often. Last week he asked me what straight razors cost. Maybe there's hope yet!

That is very cool - I have two daughters and no sons. Unless I can convince them to leg shave with a straight - it ain't going to happen.

    Congratulations. This is really nice.
My oldest daughter regularly shaves with me. She has a plastic straight with pink handles. She lathers up together with me, and then shaves the foam from her face while I shave. And then aftewards she likes to splash on aftershave and proudly rund downstairs to tell my wife that she shaved

Cool to be able to share that with your son. Wish I was introduced to it when I was 17.
