    Talking My Son

My shave of the day was the best I've had yet. I am a relative newbie, and this evening my 19 year old son came into my office and asked to shave with one of my straights. He is in woodworking and uses sharp and I mean sharp hand tools all day (chisels and hand planes) Now I know it's totally different but I said sure. So I had the honor of spending an hour or so going through the process. He has that confidence of youth and took the blade to his face like he had done it before. Fist shave was WTG only, but it came out great, no nicks or cuts. I am a bit jealous about that. He used my Henckels 401 and is on the way to a lifetime of enjoyment. We both prefer to shave in the evening, it really helps after a busy day. So I'm looking forward to shaving together with my son. I recommend any fathers out there to share your experience with your son's and encourage them to "go old school".

    Beaming with pride,
    Chip

    Red face My Son

They see all when they're young. I wish I started years ago. I have found that it is an awesome way to continue the bonding process. Good luck with the little guy, It sounds like he has a great dad!

Very cool, now you just need to convince start making brushes/stands/bowls and any other shaving related goodies that can be thought up.

And your combined budgets may mean all the more "stuff" to buy and try.

Congrats..that's awesome that you can share the experience with him. My little man just turned 6 not too long ago and when he sees me working on a razor or doing a rescale he asks "Daddy, when are you gonna do one for me?" I promise him I will and not too worry..one day all of mine will be his

Note well that a Mach-3 shave can be much improved by good "Latherin".
A decent brush and a selection of soap and creams goes a long way toward
    a better shave.

A straight is a lot more work and if your face is one of those faces that
the Mach-3 is designed for it is hard to top. Except perhaps for the relentless trips
to the cash register that is fully balanced by RAD and HAD in some people.

My son is 6 right now. He started taking a big interest in what daddy was doing when he was 4, so for his 5th birthday he got a disposable straight (no blades), my traveling strop, brush, and soap. Every time I shave he's in there with me, shaving. His technique has come a long way from that first night (same can be said of us all when we first started), and I wouldn't trade moments like that for anything.
