Thanked: 8JL, I have an 8/8 Friodur so I can make the scales easily enough but if you want to get the razor already setup send it to me and I'll do the whole lot. That way you will see the razor for the first time with the new scales fitted.
It's your choice. No problemo this end.
Cheers

Thanked: 8JL here's a set of mahogony scales on a 8/8 squarepoint Rudolf Stehlo. The wood looks much better in the flesh.
I used 3/16" thickness to start with which has probably ended up 1/8" and allows a little flex to the scales.
I have pinned the butt end with two pins without washers and have lined the scales with red plastic for ease of cleaning etc.
Does this appeal ?. If so I can make another set of the same size and send to you.

That's some nice work, Gary, I'm impressed.
So you didn't find that a third pin was necessary for this broadsword ?

P.S. it might take me a little while to get the razor ordered and whatnot, I just found out I have pneumonia and I am moving at a slugs pace and sleeping a bit too much. I will definitely order the razor this week.Last edited by JLStorm; 07-08-2006 at 01:34 AM.

Thanked: 8JL, pm sent.
Redwood, nope. The scales are pretty strong especially when you have some other layer forming a lamination.
The plastic liner also protects the blade from slamming into the scales which is generally what the third pin is for, a tang stop.
Just wait till you see my next set, they're drying at the moment. Cocobolo and yellowheart or chocolate and banana if you are peckish.

I bought a "7/8" Dorko really 15/16th nice and heavy. Shaved for the first time with it this AM. Damm what a great shave. My last four razors have all been real winners. I didn't shave yesterday so I would have more to shave. Man the wiskers just flew off.
