Thanked: 5What size razor do you like?
Well, what feels most natural in your hands and which one gives you the closest shave? So far, I have a 5/8" and a 6/8". The 5/8" is a Dovo Forestal with Cocobolo scales and a 6/8" Dovo Best Quality. The Best Quality razor has synthetic scales that effect balance much more than I thought they would. The 6/8" with the plastic scales gives a more tip heavy feel while in my hands compared to the Forestal which is thinner in profile with heavier scales. The 5/8" seems more easily maneuvered resulting in less nicks and a cleaner shave. I never thought that such small differences in weight and balance would effect my shaves but they do. Which do you prefer and why? Thanks!

I tend to like bigger razors, because of the look. The minimum I like to shave with is 5/8, but I like my 5/8+ razors the best. Only personal preference, I have no real reason, besides the looks

I have razors from 4/8 to 8/8 and enjoy shaving with them all. If I had to pick a sweet spot, it would probably be 6/8. It just feels right somehow.

I like 'em all as long as they're sharp. I use my larger wedges for more growth but otherwise I'll usually go with my hollows of various widths.

Thanked: 190I like them all. I will shave the 7/8, 8/8 for a whole month and think, these are my favorites, but then pick up a 5/8 and shave with it and think, this one is good too!
My real preference is about which one holds its edge for a long time and which one takes an easy edge.

I bought a Dovo Best Quality in 6/8 and I have only shaved a couple of times with it, and now awaiting return from Lynn Abrams. To me it seemd a bit larger and I might have preferred a 5/8 but time will tell. I seem to shave well with my Gold Bug that looks like a 5/8, but the one that I probaby have more issues with, and it may be because I am "probie" is the A.J. Henckels I have that is about 4/8 ...maybe just a little smaller. The 4/8 seems nice in spots, like on the upper lip. So... at this point in my little experience, I believe I like the 5/8 about the best all around. Experience may change my mind.

So far, I've shaved with a 4/8 5/8 and 6/8. I like using all three of those sizes. I also want to try a 7/8.
I have been looking at the Dovo Forestal. It looks like a really nice razor. What do you think of it?

I use them all but prefer either a 6/8s or 5/8s and I'll bet that's what most guys would say.

For me it seems to be more about balance than the size. My Crown Wing 11/16 has a great balance to it and therefore it tends to be the one I grab first if I am not being picky. It is also most likely going to be the one that travels with me in the near future.
I do have another TI that has Ram Horn scales but it feels surprisingly off balance compared to my Crown Wing. Even though they are roughly the same size (5/8 vs 11/16) the Crown feels more controllable.
Of course keep in mind that the differences I am speaking of (and probably everyone else here as well) are incredibly minor. I have not found a single razor to be "unwieldily" or unusable. Just minor differences in preference.
