Lay it down open, unless I've got a cat spectator, then I lay it down closed. I always clean between the scales anyway (and yet I still don't floss), so the water's a nonissue.

Like Castel33, I do all the putting-the-razor-away ritual before I begin rinsing my face. Odd priority sometimes, as my skin draws tight under the drying soap, but there it is.

It goes on my razor stand, that way I won't knock it off and slice my fingers or drop it on my weenie.

I have a smaller towel that is folded on the right side of my sink. When done with a pass and am about to lather again I put the razor on the towel. It is also a safety zone so if, God forbid, you cut yourself and are afraid to look ...don't panic just lay the razor down on the towel then calmly see if part of your face is missing!!! Hard counter tops can chip a blade so if you drop it on a counter top bad things can happen.

    Take Care,
    Richard

Just like Lynn except I put it in a crescent stand, which always falls over.

I rinse it off, wipe it on a towel, close it up, and lay it on the counter.

I just grew a long goatee and stick it in there.

I am another one who does not put it down. All the lather is gone from my face after a pass so I don't bother rinsing until I am done... just grab the brush and re-lather.

If I have to momentarily stop shaving for some reason, I rinse, wipe, then put it on the top shelf... got a 4 y/o in the house so nothing sharp stays out, ever!!

...I send it to answer the phone , yes, that's interesting, in 90% time my cell phone ring when I am shaving or taking shower
Seriously, in between passes, I close it and set it down on the counter top.

That is exactly what I do. There is not room enough on my sink to do anything else. I don't really see an issue with closing it, I never get it that wet to begin with, especially the scale area. I always have a wet, folded wash cloth on the side of my sink and wipe the blade there between each change of hands or directions, and between passes there is no extra moisture on the blade to get anything else wet. Having nicked the blade once when I first started, I'm pretty careful about leaving it open anywhere but in my shaving hand.
