I suppose we're much like Elephants and Basset Hounds in this regard... the ears are jam-packed with capillaries to keep them warm when it's cold and help rid our mamallian infrastructures of heat when it's hot. The upper parts do bleed freely when opened.
Lopping one or both off when shaving is probably something to be avoided for obvious reasons - the most obvious would be not being able to hear your target rodent at distance or not being able to see it because your glasses keep falling off your face - both of which would be a real drag 'cause you'd have to eat vegatables.
I have never had a desire to trim the 'wild hairs' out of my ears or nose with a straight razor, but if I did I'd probably set up an emergency appointment with my psychoanalyst.
I have a very fine and capable Wahl electric hair clipper set, with all the associated attachments, basically designed for digging those nuclear powered, genetically mutated hairs from just about anywhere they'd likely crop up and to date it's never drawn blood. That's the tool for the job - for me anyway.
You guys are welcome to ram your straight razors into your ears or up your nose, or with a clever mirror setup, cleave that taint mustache that's really been bothering you, but I'll take the road more likely (or less likely) traveled.
Enjoy your day and here's hoping the emergency room surgeon has a sense of humor... and your co-pay isn't to dear.

I did that with a cart a few years back. I was doing so GOOD too, but lost focus right on the top of my ear and slid the blade sideways instead of forward...got me a nice cut across the top of my ear but with all the blood, you'd have sworn I'd lopped off a limb or something. Consdiering the fact that I've been known to hit bone in my hand with a cut or two and never even soaked a tissue bleeding from it, that's saying something! So far, <knock wood>though, I've used my straight a coule of time to get rid of some ear hair without any major event.</knock wood>
