Default Ok now I am in speechless

Ok, a while back I started shaving my wires legs once in a while with my straight.. It started as just... well.. kind of Fore Play... I got pretty good at it and so once a week (not recently though as I stoop due to a surgery) for me to shave her legs because she likes the end result... Well I did tell her that I would tech her so she could do it but alas, she is too afraid to do it herself and get cut, so I just said when your ready I will show you.

On the the subject... My wires friend was over and they were talking about shaving. I have a 13 year old daughter who was listening in and my wife was telling her friend that straight razor shaving was 10 times better than the mach's and even though it's a slow process it makes them smoother.. My daughter comes and asks if she could try it... Now... I am just staring at her with the deer in the head lights look... I know that if my wife knew how to do it then she could sit in and show her or even give her a shave herself.. but I would just feel SOOOO wierd shaving even part of my kids leg... the only thing that I could say was wait till yer mom knows how..

any suggestions on how to handle this>

I'd teach the wife. chances are she'll be better than you in no time. By the way, I'm not familiar with the "wired" friend descriptor.

+1 My wife was instantly a pro. I think the absence of chins, jawlines and adam's apples on their legs gives them an advantage.

I dunno. If your wife won't learn you could try to unload some of the "shaving woman's legs" baggage and teach your daughter from the knees down. You can probably just talk her through it, no contact required.

My bigger concern would be putting a blade like that in the hands of a teenager. Maybe that's just because my family runs toward the volatile and dramatic.

This is the problem - you think of it as a foreplay.
I'd let the kid watch you shave, and if you're brave enough let her try it on your face (you know start with one stroke wtg from the sideburns to the jawline)... As long as you don't consider a woman shaving you a foreplay you'll be good, otherwise stay away from Bob Alman's thread 'so easy even 12 yr old can do it'

It sounds to me that even if you only explain her how it goes she can do it on her own. All it really takes is a light touch and not too shaky of a hand.

There is a fair chance both my daughters will end up using a straight, or at least learn how to.
Teach her to use one on her calves if you are uncomfortable. Calves are perfectly pg13.
Once she has that down, she can figure out how to shave her thighs herself.

About putting sharp things in the hands of a 13 year old...
My oldest daughter has always been very interested in my razors and knives. I've been teaching her to use small paring knives since she was 2 and a half. And all my knives are sharp enough to cut arm hair. My youngest started at 3 and a half.

To be fair, my youngest (now aged 4) is not that skilled yet, but my 6 year old knows how to handle a real straight safely, and she knows how to shave with a plastic straight (how's that for bonding ). I am pretty sure that I could give her a real straight and teach her to shave her legs without cuts. If she can do it, your daughter should be just fine at age 13.

Seems to me that a simple solution would be to just have your daughter watch you shave your legs...wait, no.

Seriously though, it is pretty cool that she is interested in the hobby. I'd say we owe it to future generations to get as many young people into the hobby as possible - male or female.

If you are unable to teach her on her legs use her forearm it is a shorter distance but very similar shape from wrist to elbow as from ankle to knee. You can also shave her under arms. I would use this as an opportunity to have quality time with your teenage daughter no matter how close you may be now she is a teenager and that will change. The hobby of shaving with a straight could turn in to time in antique stores looking for her or your next treasure. I would look at her asking as an opportunity to grow closer to your daughter. That could never be a bad thing
