As a former wrestling coach and now referee, it is so funny to see how some of these young men treat their facial hair. There are some who are hairier than a yak, and some who are getting ready to go to college and have never shaved. Me - I had to start in eighth grade when I was 14! Some of these guys can't understand the rules: you need to be CLEAN shaven, no peach fuzz, no whispy hair or two. However, someone should follow me to some tournaments with hot towels and their shave gear. Charge some money to get these young gentlemen smooth and I won't have to send them back to the sink for another try at the electric or disposable plastic thingy.
Congrats Carl on the time with your son. My five year old daughter and two year old son will get a shaving lesson from their old pop someday!

Well done, Carl.
I am looiing forward to teaching my eldest son to shave this week.
He is 31 and I haven't lived in the same house as him since he was six...some here will know the drill :-(
We have been rebuilding our relationship for a few years now and this will bring us closer (with any luck)
He lives about 1000km away, in Sydney, and I don't get to see him as often as I want to.
I hope he likes the straight razor experience enough to take up the pastime.Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Congrats, Carl. Its one thing seeing their eyes open the first time, or sending them off to their first day of school, but a true father/son experience like teaching him to shave is one you'll never forget. Also, you're very lucky to be able to re-live that experience again with your other boys. You must be proud. As much as we all pride ourselves as tough guys, sometimes its good to know youve done something right, it just makes all the mistakes fade away. Congrats again. I cant wait for that time, i already have a 5 year old that started school today, asking when i would teach him to shave with a straight. He's already picked out my Clauss 5/8 with the ivory inlay on the tang...figures. Right now, he practices when i shave with the side of one of our dinner spoons. Your post let me know what i have to look forward to, thank you for that.

Thanked: 485Some really cool replies to my post here, thanks very much for the positive comments. I also need to report that he's now borrowed my cheap second shaving brush...Maybe I should have waited till pay week for him?

Thanked: 443Well, hey, at least he borrowed your cheap second. Me, I'd have gone for the best one I could see!
And now you've got a shaving pal. A bargain at any price."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

Thanked: 485Cool. Learning something yourself does sort of make it stick in the memory, I find, and allows for a nice 'Eureka' moment A la Archimedes. I must say Aaron is rather cavalier with his razor, and causes me to suck the breath through my teeth at times in anticipation of a sliced off ear lobe or mole. But there's a lot to be said for fault correcting, and being an ex Australian Army Recruit Instructor, I'm rather good at fault correcting (anything and everyone, much to their annoyance).
