I introduced my son to a straight when he was a little older than 17. The reason was because he'd been diagnosed as ADHD many years ago!
Yes it does take concentration and patience! That's why I introduced him to the art!
He started out by using my razors but when Christmas came about 6 months later I gave him a Friodur 8/8 with a worked spine. When his birthday came around 4 months later, he received his own strop. This last Christmas he received a custom made shaving bowl from his niece and nephew and a gift certificate for a set of custom made scales in his choice of material and design. Here's a link to see the 8/8 in their new home!

He's a Captain in his JR-ROTC and is planning on a military career. He' bummed that it will be awhile before he can use his straight after he has joined! When he has gone on Drill Meets he's taken a DE. This weekend was his last drill meet. He called about arrival arrangements and while we were talking he suddenly he blurted out "Dad! Electric Razors Suck"! Apparently another cadet had offered him the 'Opportunity' to Join the 'Modern Age'!
Guess who couldn't wait to shave with a straight for his next shave!!??!!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
