Obie, you mention that it takes about 100 shaves to feel confident, to paraphrase. I heard this from another trusted member, too. As far as my progress is going, I think that number is pretty accurate.

I have a dirty bird scuttle on the way. I'm glad its in your top three.

Very well written article. Thanks for sharing.

I'll repeat what I just wrote over at Razor & Stone forum:
"Obie, you're an ambassador for us all. Great article. Made me want to buy a S8 razor, a strop, a bucket of suds--Wait! I've got all that stuff and am looking forward to tomorrow's shave! Your enthusiasm is obviously (Obie-ously) infectious!
    Pat"

Obie, your enthusiasm for our hobby is a great match for your eloquence with the pen (or the keyboard, I suppose). I commend you for spreading the word and doing it in your own inimitable fashion. Thank you for sharing this article, which I have taken the liberty of sharing on Facebook. Slowly, but surely, I am "coming out" as a straight shaver to my friends and family, many of whom give me strange looks and ask the typical silly questions. Articles like yours remind me that I'm not alone on this journey.

    Obie,
Thanks for the link to another of your superbly written articles. I never tire of reading your work. I started a little earlier than you did (in my 50's) and like you I have never looked back. Keep spreading the word.

    Walter

Great article. To capture the quality experience of wet shaving in a few paragraphs is a nice accomplishment.
