Found this on the net. Not a dumb question, more like 'obvious' advice.

An actual tip from page 16 of the HP "Environmental,Health & Safety Handbook for Employees":

"Blink your eyelids periodically to lubricate your eyes."
“The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.”

Dumbest shaving-related question I've heard is if drying the straight razor with toilet paper would scratch or damage the razor. It wasn't asked on this board though (phew!). Needless to say mods were watching and didn't appreciate my reply (vaguely recall bringing the relative hardness of both substances and the designed purpose of the razor).

I can see why someone would ask that. People always hear how cutting paper can dull knives. I figure someone considering using toilet paper might be afraid that if they touch the blade, over time they might dull that blade, too. To you it may be a no-brainer; but what's obvious to one person may not be to another.

And if you spend several hours creating a mirror polish on steel you'd swear fresh air alone scratches it let alone TP.

There are very few things that aren't mildly abrasive, and I'm not one of them.

You might be right, I know after I've used the highest grit wet sandpaper available to me I've often used toilet paper for that extra polishing edge.
    Need I say more?

    etc.; etc.

No. I can see why people would ask this question. It doesn't mean I'd ask that question.

I guess what I am seeing here is a lack of empathy for someone who knows absolutely nothing about edges and knives and blades of any type and might be starting from total scratch. I'm disappointed.

Well, you'd have to have seen the original question, I guess. It wasn't about accidaintily cutting the toilet paper. He wasn't describing scratches from air after polishing, or anything else. He just wanted to know if drying a blade (read: not just the edge) with toilet paper might actually scratch the razor. Now, I'm not one to be overly judgemental but I'd bet this guy's household was in regular use of some pretty cheap toilet paper!

Then he probably has more to worry about than a scratched razor. Better him than you or me.
