    First off, welcome!

    You should find many like minded folks here. I like your Franklin qoute. That it lead you here is serendipitous.

    If you care to spend the time....you'll find interesting posts by guys who MAKE their own razors, tie their own flies, reload their own ammo, blend their own pipe tobacco and so on and so forth.

    Here's one of my favorite self-reliancy quotes:
