We can probably get by with only one outfit of clothes or only one hat, but that is not much fun. I have a go-to DOVO that I use almost everyday while occasionally rotating with one of my others. It is fun to experiment. I try and learn new things everytime I bust up my shaving routine with a suggestion from this forum or with a different DE or SR. This hobby of wet shaving is a fascinating journey with no destination punctuated with perfect shaves. Enjoy your trip.

Thanked: 220I used my first straight everyday for over a year before I got another one. Nobody needs more than 1, but everybody wants more than 1! I'm sure most men only had 1 razor back in the Victorian Era, it was probably all that a lot of them could afford.

Thanked: 270I do think I get better shaves when I give a particular razor a rest. I think I learn from using various razors and get a better shave on all of them as a result. I also use various soaps, creams, and aftershaves.
I have a feeling that if I stuck with one of everything all the time I might enjoy shaving less and may be less intent on getting the best possible shave every time.

Thanked: 34Ive buit up a nice collection over the years, but the past 4 months I have used only one of those countless razors day in and day out just to see what would happen. Other then a quick trip to the Crox every so often, she still shaves wonderfully with just daily stropping. Though my other beauties are felling a little neglected.

Thanked: 1371Q: Do we really need more than one razor?
A: Do we really need more than one kidney?
Sell one and buy more razors.

Well I have +50 but two or three would do.
Razors are like cars. If you work on
your own you need a second to go and get
parts with. The second need not be a fancy one
but should get you to your day job and
let you get parts.
Since barbers that know how to hone razors
are so rare we no longer have the luxury of
bringing our razor in for a tune up when we
get a haircut once or twice a year.
Blade resting was and is not a myth...
but recall that many times it was a barber
that way this. After shaving twenty faces
and numerous visits to the strop the blade
would be moved to the back of the line
to rest.
For an individual I think it is a myth in my experience.
I would note that some tools and even boots do
better when used in rotation. The wear is even and
the care and attention consistent and near equal.Last edited by niftyshaving; 01-08-2012 at 10:21 AM.
