My point was simply that in the online world many claims are made, and we usually have to take them for their word because we have no way to prove or disaprove any personal statement. So if a newb posted that his first shave was absolutely perfect - no blood, true BBS all over, done in 10 min - it may be suspect but we can't assume it's false either. And I understand Mark's situation too because I was there at one point myself. While the beginners forum is undoubtedly a great place to learn and share experiences unfortunately there is a tendency to gauge one's progress compared to everybody elses. I still believe at the end of the day that new guys are better served by concentrating on their own progress rather than focuing on others.

Sorry Ryan, just a feeble attempt at sarcasm on my part, i.e. dinosaur training comment being obviously BS. Yes while there are clearly some people who are a natural I think some people don't know what they are aiming for and call a BBS or proficiency in honing or whatever only to subsequently get better results in the future and realize that what they previously called wasn't strictly true! Oh and there is the occasional fantasist too who are basically BS merchants. Not many but in a forum this size its inevitable to have a few.

The fact is we should all concentrate on what we are doing without being competitive about it.
