Even so...it was awesome - I have to agree with avatar on this one.

I'm with Grizzley, shaving three days growth is very nice. It seems to be just the right amount of scruffiness to be removed - go into the bathroom scruffy and come out a gentlemen . I also find I get a closer shave and my skin feels smoother, too.

My favorite is a two day growth in terms of feel, but I don't feel right if I don't shave daily.

I knew I wasn't crazy asking this question and I knew I wasn't the only one. There is absolutely nothing like shaving off a nice grubby stubble that needs it, as I said, my favorite is three days because that's about as long as I can take it. However, every once in a while you get a four-day growth and it is just awesome when you can see the hair and the lather and hear them as they pop it's such a nice feeling. Also, as someone else mentioned, when there's something to cut. You seem to get a better shave. Not really sure why but it seems to be a fact. Coach that was a really nice handlebar, but I can see why you shaved it, plus the goatee came out rather nice and isn't it so much easier getting everything lined up with a straight?
    Thanks

Going for 3 to nearly 4 days gives a great sounding shave for sure, but I more frequently go about 2 days between shaving. I'm not experienced enough to shave daily, and at this point the anticipation of shaving is just joyous. I'm hooked nearly as badly as any of you I reckon.

Speedster, you're spot on, I reckon. Even though when you're new to straight razor shaving you'll want to shave every day, or even more, it makes greater sense to shave every second day, for the skin's sake. It also adds the additional bonus of allowing for good face mapping...And the sound with a nice razor is so fundamental it stirs one's soul...

Shaving can be so mundane and cosmopolitan.

    So can everything else.

Getting back to the basics of stuff is important for one's self awareness and comparison to all that one perceives is outside of one's self. Getting to the basics of a ritualistic act one does daily; using fine tools, can be a real Zen experience; it does allow one to experience how one's body and mind interacts with one's physical and spiritual surroundings. A lot of what I value about straight razor shaving and honing is related to concentration and directed thought.

    I'm over thinking this, aren't I?

If I let my whiskers go for more than 30hrs I get uncomfortable, so somewhere between 30-36 hours is a really gratifying shave. My whiskers are sadists, and they turn back in on me, so when I get about a day and a half out they're assaulting my skin and getting rid of them makes me feel good.

Nearly every morning I shave to prevent the assault, but I couldn't say it's more gratifying then.

This fall I had a surgery and was laid up for a week, unable to shave. After three days the whiskers have gotten long enough that they're not as uncomfortable, but when I could stand long enough to shave, picking up an old Sheffield Wedge and watching it wipe away an entire week's worth of growth was unbelievably gratifying! I felt like a new man. And that was after only one pass!

Right now I have a beard for winter (though I still shave my neck daily). I'm eagerly awaiting the end of February when I plan to shave it all off!

    Peace,
    Jim

I'm also in the two- to three-days growth camp, although every now and then I'll grow out a beard partly because of the enjoyment of shaving it off with a nice wedge.

Every other day works well for me. Beard seems softer after a day or two.

The longer my beard gets, the happier I am when I finally shave it off. But my favorite amount of stubble to shave off is that last little bit on the second or third pass that is trying to hide the perfectly smooth face underneath
