Steam won't help it, and it could hurt it. My strops are not allowed in the bathroom. They are not allowed in the bedroom either unless they've been really, really good. And even then, they're not allowed to watch.

I would worry about mold and mildew growing in the leather. You venting the bathroom with an open door is good, but if your wife steams the room up without ventilation it could cause problems down the road.

Thanked: 1195Mould and mildew aren't the only concerns. You can also wrinkle or warp the leather with excess heat and moisture. The best solution, as has already been mentioned, is to keep it out of the bathroom until you need it.

Thanked: 443I have a strop hanging in my camper in NW Colorado, where it is awfully cold and dry. The side that hangs toward the wall is always colder, so probably experiences a higher relative humidity. Not that it's a lot of humidity, but it's a tiny bit higher on the one side and it's cupping away from there. It's probably best to hang them where they'll experience the same condtions on both sides of the leather.
My paddle strop is definitely cupping from the dry air. I'm going to have to glue in spacers to flatten it back out."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

Mine are in the bathroom. I figure if some shavers 'lather strop' than a little humidity won't hurt them .

Thanked: 983A little, no. A lot, yes! There is a difference between getting leather wet and allowing it to dry completely and having leather constantly soaking up moisture and never having the opportunity to dry properly. There is a reason why it is recommended that you don't store your razors in a leather case, or your high carbon blade knives in the sheath, and that reason is because leather is like a sponge in that it absorbs moisture readily and easily. Drawing it in to it's core. Putting leather in an area that has high levels of airbourne moisture particles is asking for trouble in the long term.
