Thanked: 884I prefer the bigger wedge and semi wedge blades 7/8 and up.
One of razors in the rotation is a Clauss 5/8 square point, full hollow. I have to pay a lot more attention with it than I do the bigger blades, but it shaves great and has yet to take off an ear.

Thank you doctor
It must be sort of like psychotherapy. Articulating the problem really helped. I went back to my Shumate Barber Deluxe (4/8 with a very thin - 0.150" - spine). I really focused on angle and pressure and got a perfect shave. I think this razor is just a little less forgiving.
Thank you to all who took the time to respond.

It's like driving a car. If you can drive you can drive everything (within reason). Just because you usually drive a subcompact doesn't mean you can't drive a small truck. Of course many people simply will not but that's them and speaks of their driving abilities or confidence. So if you can get a good shave with a 7/8s it should be no different with a 4/8s. Just a few adjustments to make.

I find the really light blades tend to skid over the stubble. Blades with a narrow spine that are extra hollow ground.

OK. I shave with a big variety, but I find the biggest thing to consider is the blade angle. If one shaves with a narrower razor and switches to a wider blade, the distance of the spine, relative to the face, must be adjusted. The varied grinds matter as well. It has been difficult, for me anyway, to go back to my smaller shavers as my rotation has been getting wider. I simply feel I am not lifting the spine enough to get a proper shaving angle. Possibly lack of weight from a spine hanging out there, or not considering that I am shaving with something different.......... I have been concentrating on it and see better results from my smaller blades. Of course, this could work the other way around. Just my experience!

I find my heavier blades are much easier to shave with in that they are forgiving of angle/pressure mistakes, my Extra hollow blades will give me as good or even better shaves, but they require a lot more concentration to make sure i am using zero pressure or I will regret it come alum time

Thanked: 14+1 I let the weight do the work and I find it easier to control.

I find this discussion fascinating. Size and weight considerations vs sharpness of the blade. (The same discussion that's held here is also held with safety razors). There's just so many different variables to consider. I find that I hold the same feels that larger blades are more efficient but then I use my Feather Artist Club (light, small, real sharp, great 2 pass shave)and again question the factors involved in getting a great shave come back.
