I've been shaving with a DE and straight for years and all of a sudden if I do ATG on the center of my neck I get intense itching for days. If I skip the ATG I get mild itching for a few hours. Straight or DE it doesn't matter. In my case it's just one of those aging things with the skin.

Another possibliity, and for the life of me I can't remember the source for this; multiple passes from different directions shape the top of the hair to more of a pointed end. This end sticks into the top of the skin surrounding the shaft as it grows, causing irritation...itching. Once it grows past the top of the follicle opening, that irritation stops.

I can't really believe there'd be blade irritation or a reaction to a soap after >24 hours post exposure... those biomechanisms don't work that way. Regardless, cowboy up... you get used to it.
