Quick question to anyone. If this is caused by water damage like Lynn thinks, will a stainless steel razor get rust spots or any water damage?
See post # 3 above in this thread.

+1 to post #3. If it happened during the shave it's likely your water or soap.

I've seen this before. It is amazing what some soap and water can do when left on a blade for even a few hours. It can happen even when someone takes care to wipe blades dry. Mistakes get made. I was able to remove it with Maas and some rubbing, but it is surprising how quickly this comes about and how deep the marks can be.

As for 'Stainless', the word should be interpreted as meaning "stains less". Stainless will still stain but will do it LESS than carbon steel blades. It is not completely impervious to staining.

If it was wet for only 5 minutes water couldn't have done that unless you have pure acid for water. it almost looks like the print on the razor was lifted and running. When I took a junk razor and immersed it in pure bleach it took longer than that before it blackened the blade and that was carbon steel.

I remember once I got all 'artistic' with a Shave of the Day Post and sprayed my gear with a mist of water. I then took the photo and edited it, and an hour later I found the razor looked similar to this. I took an old rag that had been used to polish cufflinks that was pretty much impregnated with 'Brasso' (dry) and rubbed it for a bit and it came off. I was amazed at how quickly the blade tarnished. These days my razors hardly get wet at all. I never actually put them in water; I never rinse them like I used to. They only come in contact with the lather off my face, a bath towel and a tissue with eucalyptus oil on it.

I guess it's worth saying I've had shivers down my spine thinking of slicing my finger on the edge when polishing the blade...

I started out with the very same model of razor a few years ago. Compared to the Sheffield razors that I mostly use now, I found it to be very prone to rust spotting if I wasn't meticulous with drying and cleaning.
In fairness, during the learning process, everything did seem to get wetter and take longer than it does now. (I know, that sentence could make you smile)
