Thanked: 1Thanks to all, your tips and two practice shaves have helped dramatically. Turning my head sharply to align the cheek as i use a scything motion to shave the are has seem to work great. This forum is so useful and informative. Keep up the good work everyone i appreciate it.

Thanked: 1195My neck whiskers grow sideways too, but in the opposite direction (towards ears). Long time readers will know that I've mentioned this before, but what I do on these areas are two XTG passes: one straight down and one straight up (you could do vice versa as well, it doesn't really matter). This gets me BBS without the need for ATG and the associated irritation, which is the most important thing. Just something else to consider.

Thanked: 2The hairs on my neck fall in the exact same direction. The stubble almost lies flat too. Stretching is the only good solution. My most difficult spot is the corner of my jaw below my right ear. I have hairs growing in every direction there--down, up, side to side, even in a kind of circularity--and I've never discovered a good technique to make that area BBS. The angle of my jawline prohibits a good swipe no matter the level of stretching I achieve. It drives me crazy; although buffing has helped.

How about a link to the "JaNorton" thread. I did a search and found a few posts but nothing that sounds like what you're talking about. Thanx!

Thanked: 270My neck hair grows in the same direction. I have posted this video ad nauseum on the forum but it is useful in demonstrating how I attack this problem. If the square point is sharp the chance of poking yourself is increased. I actually do pretty well with a large blade like you're trying to use, but my preference is a 5/8 or 11/16 razor because it is more agile.
Let me also say that when I began straight shaving I couldn't reach all these areas with a razor. Now with 2 years experience I can.
Look at about the 5:15 mark and 4:50 mark. He uses somewhat of a diagonal motion but it is effective.
What I do that he doesn't is repeat that motion in my ATG pass.
