Thanked: 1Problem with shaving ATG on my neck (hair grows sideways near jaw area)
So over the last few months i have mapped out my face fairly well, but have always had trouble with the edges of my next, see attached photo.
I edited the next photo from the archives here.
Description of photo
Blue is the Chin Line
Red is the direction my hair grows
Im looking for advice on how to go ATG in this area, the problem arises with the size of the razor it makes if difficult to go horizontal with it. I also am trying to use a 7/8 square point, which could be make me a fool from the start. I worry as i go ATG with the razor vertical the point will catch on my jaw line. So most of the time i either finish with a pass ATG with the razor horizontal and pull up vertically and have a little stubble or pull out the DE Razor and quickly touch up just that ATG area.
Any suggestions is GREATLY appreciated.

I've got some sort of the same issue and found that a combination of guillotining and skytching was the trick to get the best result.

My whiskers go in similar direction. I tackle the problem by going on an 45 degree angle from my chin towards the side of my neck. Not directly against the growth, but enough where I get the same shave. Oh, I also make sure I stretch my skin on my neck as much as it can be. This seems to work and I get a very close shave.

Thanked: 15The scything motion has worked the best for me,as all my throat hair grows horizontal.I don't think I'd try it with a square point though.

ATG on my neck is outright. I've been using a combination of chin to ear and scything strokes with nice effect.

Thanked: 3225Looks like I do the same as everyone else has said so far. I go diagonally on my neck as a sub for XTG pass and probably get a little scything in too.

Thanked: 146All of the above comments should help you, but do you turn your head sideways to stretch the skin and make the side of you neck and jawline flat? This is what I do and it seems to work well.

Thanked: 1Thanks for everyones input, with has given me some great ideas and when i shave tomorrow i will give it a shot and report back, I think the tuning my neck will help the most as i didn't think of that, and just trying it in the office here seems like it would work. I also greatly appreciate the link to the wiki as i must have skimed over that area
Very excited as this so far has always resulted in me touching up with a DE. Probably put down the 7/8 square and pick up my trusty 6/8 round to ease the chance of poking myself while i practice the scything and guillotine motion.

Just be careful, it's very thin line between these strokes and slicing

Find that a big part of going ATG or XTG on the neck is the sharpness of the razor. Don't want to dwell on them... When I shave with the Feather proguards a true BBS face and neck is only 1wtg and 1atg. With razors that I've honed and stropped it's a few more passes(:-( and requires me going across the grain on the neck and face.
