    Default Feather Artist vs. Shavette

From what I have read, the feather artist is supposed to be about a billion times better than a shavette. My question is does anyone own both that can show me a side by side? I have 2 Dovo's and since I dont have time right now to hone and strop, got shavette. However, I have really been eyeballin' the feather artist and it looks like it takes a little bit longer blade closer to a straight. Is this correct?

    thanks for looking.

I haven't used one, or even seen one in 'real life.' But ..... mparker, a member who knew his razors, said the Feather Artist is so sharp that he had to really exercise great care when shaving with one. Might be too much of a good thing for a head shaver. Someone who actually knows what they are talking about will probably post so stay tuned.

I have both. The feather blade is longer than a shavette. As has been very well reported, the feather blades are very sharp, but I doubt that they are significantly sharper than a good DE or injector blade (or a top grade conventional straight fresh from the hone). Are they too sharp? I guess it depends; if you have blemishes, moles, scars or whatever, I don't think a Feather is for you. The blade, once it's mounted in the razor, is very stiff and does not glide over minor imperfections very well. I happen to have pretty good success with a Feather, but not everyone does, including guys who are operating a higher skill level than I do.

If you are looking for a personal recommendation regarding the Feather vs. Shavette I would tell you to get the Feather and give it a go. The only advantage the shavette has, IMO, is cost.
