We have one shop here that charges $12 for a shave with a shavette. He took $2 off for me when I brought one of ny straights in for him to use on me. :) There's also another shop that charges $15 for a shave with a Proglide.:(

Whenever I hear about these high priced shaves where you get real pampered but wind up with a so-so shave if your lucky I think of the old phrase we used to describe certain cars years ago, "all show and no go".
Now if I had a glass jar by the old shave station and each time I shaved I put $20 in I'd have enough to buy a real nice custom razor in no time.
$6 sounds like a great deal to me. I haven't paid less than $20 any time I've had a barber shave, and I end up walking away with weepers and razor bumps :(. There's a "mens' boutique" by my place that charges $40 (!) but I have yet to try their services. BTW unit - I suppose they use a disposable straight?
Ouch! Sorry Theseus, but if there was a "Dislike" button I'd probably have to press it
I would presume so. I cannot imagine the health code issues otherwise (particularly at that price).
My pal that goes there on occasion does not own a proper razor...so I know it's not a BYO shop.
There was one like that I'm Michigan when I was there. Clients purchased their razors on sight and they were stored in private lockers along with their other shaving needs. I was told that several lockers contained fine cigars and single malts as well;)
That place was probably a bit too rich for my blood. I knew better than to even ask...at that time I would not have afforded 5 bucks for a shave. Id say those clients knew how to enjoy a shave;)
We have a straight-razor-shave barbershop in Vancouver:
Hair salon for men, Mens hair salon and barber shop with quality hair cuts, styles, straight razor shaves and more.
$45 !!!
[I'll have to explain to my wife how much money I'm saving by doing my own straight-razor shaving and maintenance and collecting.<G>]
To be fair, a barber is selling his skill, and his time. If he takes 1/2 hour to do a complete prep-lather-shave-aftershave cycle, you're going to pay a decent amount for it.

Best shave i ever had was in Dublin, in the Waldorf. i think it was about 32 euros, but that place is awesome, has great vibes :L
I've never paid less than $75, but as you note, the area (Las Vegas and Chantilly, VA) has a lot to do with it. These were nice, basic shaves, far inferior to my own skills, if that is a fair comparison.
Your barber didn't happen to be this gentleman by any chance???
