I can see where this would maybe be interesting if you can buy giftvouchers...
You know those folks where you need to buy a gift, and dont want to be cheap... but cannot think of anything so you end up splashing $50 on something noone can ever use... Flowers, fruit, tickets to something you dont even know if they like...
There I can see a gift certificate for a shave may be a better option....
On a recent trip to Chicago my wife and I stopped at Truefitt and Hill. I thought I would get a shave while I was there until I saw the price. $60 for a shave. I'm sorry I don't care how much they pamper me for $60 I would rather buy shaving supplies and have some thing for my money that will last longer than a day. Just my opinion.
I thought I saw a barber up in the AOS shop in Denver... I didn't stop to ask though.
I hear that...if I thought it was going to be a truly exceptional experience that might teach me something about enjoying shaving I would pay up on a special occasion (birthday or something) but its doubtful that I would learn more from the experience than an equivalent time spent here;)
Out of all the barbers in my area( about 6) only one still does strait razor shaves. He uses a shavette type razor, and charges 8 bucks. He charges me 3 bucks just for a neckline shave. But there is no steamed towels or anything fancy about it. He just gets a hot lather foam from a machine dispenser and thats your prep! And from the feel of it I wouldnt want a full face shave! I dont think it cuts the hair as much as it scrapes the hair.
I splurged for their shave and it was amazing. Long process that was well worth it. Granted it was 15 years ago and I was graduating college...
I found out after my wife took me to the barbershop in Beverly Hills for my first straight razor shave, it was $60 plus tip. Best shave of my life, a week later I spent $350 for a set up and am happy to say I'm HOOKED on straight razor shaves!!!
I got my head shaved by an old barber here in town this past weekend, clippers then two passes with a shavette. 12 bucks.
