I use a straight at home, and a DE when travelling.

Thanked: 1195As far as I'm concerned there is no rule that says you can only shave with one type of razor. Due to time constraints I often shave with a DE during the work week, but weekends are reserved for my straights without question. I can get outstanding, enjoyable shaves from both. Just my $0.02

Thanked: 1185I too am equal opportunity. I own and operate SE, DE and straight razors. No real rotation I just pick up a safety razor as the mood hits. More times than not though, I use a straight. I've had great shaves from everything in my rotation.

Thanked: 0Time is the fiend for me and straights. If I have the time I love using a straight. Otherwise it's a d.e..been being rushed a lot lately though. Weekends are the best time for me and a straight.

Thanked: 8Much obliged, gentlemen. I appreciate the input. For the last 3 months I have used a straight exclusively but just placed an order for a DE and blade sampler with SRD. I take the warnings about the need for caution and technique seriously. Seems they're a different animal with a distinct risk and require their own approach. But having an option seems like a cool idea.

Over the last month or two I've been using my Merkur DE a little more.
It's partly due to laziness because it gets me a quick, acceptable one pass shave. I also enjoy it because in many ways a DE shave is a skill on it's own.
I always keep the DE at hand with a blade loaded, even when I'm using the straight more. It's good to have at hand for quick touchups or if the straight isn't working out.

I've been shaving with a Gillette Adjustable DE for years before recently transitioning to a SR. I use the SR for shaving WTG and the DE for shaving ATG & minor touchups. Otherwise, I'll mainly use the DE when traveling.

Not that different an animal is the DE with respect to the basics. Use a sharp blade, a light touch and watch the angle. Have fun.

I usually use straights. I was recently lent a DE and found it to give quite a nice shave. I'm going to look around for a nice old Gillette in the near future! But, I tend to favor straights.
