Thanked: 8SR8 & DE shavers?
I have gotten the sense from some posts that a number of forum contributors who shave mostly with straights switch from time to time to other razors: double edge or...other. Is this common? Or rare? Or pretty mixed and individual? For those who do so, how often? Just curious. Thanks.

I use straights, de's and se's. I mostly use the straights, but sometimes I just feel like using one of the others. No rhyme or reason to it at all.

I shaved with a doubled edge since I was a teenager, now I pretty much use a straight most of the time.

Thanked: 275I went from cartridge to straight razor. Then started experimenting with DE's.
Over the past month, I've shaved more with a DE than with a straight. Next month, might be back to straight-razor shaving.
I won't use a straight if I'm rushed. And my schedule has been getting busier.
Once you've mastered the techniques of both straights and DE's, the question becomes something like:
. . . do you want scrambled eggs or cereal for breakfast?
Charles. . . . . Mindful shaving, for a better world.

mumpig,
Like Theseus, Scookum & Charles, I use a safety razor by way of a change (mostly GEM/EverReady/Star SEs); I use them when I am away on business for a day or so - if I am away for a week or greater, I take a straight & my paddle strop.
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

I use Straights mostly but when rushed, traveling or just too lazy, I use a DE.

SR8 & DE shavers?
Mostly straights with a DE for travel and mixing things up at home. Though I tend to lean towards more aggressive DE's when I do use them. I guess it gives me a better feel like a straight.

Thanked: 3225Started shaving over 40 years ago with a DE and have used all types of safety razors till 6 months ago when I tried straights. I have all the time in the world to enjoy a leisurely straight shave every morning being retired now. I use them exclusively at home. If I travel by car I will use my Fat Boy DE and if I travel by air it will be disposables both for convenience sake. At this point I get good shaves with any of them but straights offer the most enjoyment and satisfaction to use by far.

Went from Carts to DE and from DE to Straights.
Now Straights at home and on the road when the trip is long enough to check a bag - and then its a Feather SS or CJB (less hardware, lower maintenance, less time & great shave)
Backup on the road is a DE and a disposable Cart thrown in, cause I'm a belts and suspenders kind of guy when it comes to travel.
The only time I use the Cart is on those trips with 12-19 hour plane rides and you can't carry a DE blade or its a short trip.
And I actually see more blood with a DE on the few times I use it than I do with a Straight - I assume that is lack of practice and operator error.
But oh, the joy of having choices...to have what was once a chore become something akin to a Tea Ceremony of quiet reflection...
