Thanked: 21st Straight Razor Shave
I recieved my straight razor kit from Straight Razor Design today it was all I expected and more. I couldn't wait to shave with a straight razor for the first time. I took a good hot shower to soften the beard lathered up and begin to hack away. I must say I'm rather pleased; I only needed one blood tranfusion during the whole process.. LOL
All joking aside I shaved WTG and ATG with only one little tiny nick using my non-dominant hand. I was extreamly pleased with how I done. This is absolutely the closest shave I've ever had. I must say I feel as though I could kick Josey Wales butt tonight. lol
I decided to switch to a safety razor a few months back because of the price of the Fusion cartriges. It was a much closer shave, I've always been intrigued by straight razors so a few weeks ago decided to give this a shot. After much reading on this post I ordered my kit last week and I can surley say I'm Hooked..
Thanks
Don and Lynn for the awesome kit from straight razor design and thanks to everyone on this forum for all the information I have gotten over the past few weeks.

Congratulations, Sean. It took me 28 years to switch to DEs, then a further 18months to straights. You'll never look back now.

I doubt there will ever be a point where you regret this decision. It's an awesome feeling not to have to set aside money in the grocery budget for $30 razor blades anymore. And honestly if you actually bought a 4 pack of cartridges a month, the kit will pay for itself pretty quickly.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

That is awesome just what I wanted to hear. I have yet to straight razor shave, I plan on ordering a kit from SRD also. I am also having a vintage razor restored. If you don't mind me asking what razor did you get and what items did you decide to upgrade from the default choices?
Aloha,
ED

Thanked: 4That is awesome. My first shave was horrible. I tried to do my whole face and chewed it up. My face was hurting for 3 days. But 1 year off and on, and 3 months rededicated, it is the best choice I ever made. Good luck on your future shaves.

Congrats on your first shave. I read your first paragraph to SWMBO and she laughed and started to remind me about my first few shaves. Glad you enjoyed the shave. Keep at it, soon enough you'll be enjoying wonderful shaves.

Thanked: 2Dustoff003,
I bought the 5/8 Dovo with the black handles and upgraded the strop to the 3" red leather and sandlewood soap. The rest I left standard.
Now that I have found that I like it I'll probably order another razor or two and start trying some different soaps.

Nice! Congrats. I'm only on my third shave. My first time I made a huge mistake of lowering my hand to the sink, but accidentally hit my chin on the way down, and quickly. I was bleeding for a while, and the mark is still not completely gone That was 2.5 weeks ago LOL! Last shave I had no nicks and tried XTG. I have a full and coarse beard, so it takes me an hour to shave. I can't wait to have it narrowed down to at least 10 - 15 min or so.
You should get a razor off the classifieds. I actually got two, and love them. I got a 5/8 Monopol, and a near wedge Sheffield. I saved a ton of money too instead of getting a new razor. I can refer you to the seller that I got them from. Very nice guy and a skilled honer too.
