"Jesus loves you" is a nice thing to hear in church, not so much in a Mexican prison!

Closest shave is my best shave. That's what shaving is about for me.

My SWMBO has been shaving my face of late due to my hands being laid up. I recently acquired a TI 4/8 shorty (big shout out of thanks to Earcutter and Cangooner!), and she used it for the 1st time on me today. Closest shave she's given me thus far -- only 1 weeper!!!

Monday was one of my best shaves so far. I'd touched up the edge on a balsa/CrOX strop and honed it well. The blade was sweetened nicely and the first pass was quick and effective. No tugging, no skipping, no force needed, no weepers and skin felt great. Even the mouth area seemed easy and I was able to get those pesky whiskers that seem to grow out of the very edge of my lips and have the ability to dodge the blade.

I washed my face and thought about how well it was going.

Then I shaved ATG and cut myself twice.

Funny about this thread cause I was thinking about this just a few days ago.

I remember it well because I was in a public bath house shaving in Pompeii when Vesuvius went off. I had to run like hell and jump into the sea to get away from the ash. Most didn't make it.

I never did finish that shave. However I did convince Charlie Bresnick to create that Vesuvius razor. You all know why it has the Grim Reaper on it don't you? It's because he came calling on everyone that day in Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Think this is a tall tale?

I have one of those razors, and my first shave with it (very recent) was one of the best.

But the best shave I can recall was after I took a week off from shaving, and showering, while camping/hiking. Can't recall what razor I used.

I posted my best shave in the "Shave of the Day" on Nov 3 2011.
It was a crappy phone pic taken of my only razor at the time, my Dovo Bismarck on top of my shaving bowl that I bought while I was away.

I had only been shaving for a few months with a straight and I was still working out the kinks.
I had worked the best 17 hour day of my life that day, trying to get our aircraft serviceable in order to make a return voyage home from my 6 month tour in Sicily. Needless to say I was tired, and obviously pretty excited.

We had to spend the night in St. Johns NFLD, we were put up in a nice inn overlooking the famous George Street. I was too tired to go celebrate. so I hunkered down for a nice pre-slumber shave.

I used the only soap that I owned at the time, a tube of Proraso. No pre-shave, just a hot water rinse of my face.

All I could think about was meeting my little girls on the tarmac back at home, and I obviously got distracted and cut myself.

Never the less, it was the first time in a long time that I had been by myself. It was one of those extremely surreal and 'aware' moments of my life. Giving me time to reflect, appreciate and embrace my situation.

    BEST SHAVE EVER.

Great story, and thanks for the mention of St John's. I spent five of the best years of my life in that city. Man, do I ever miss The Duke and late-night conversations with the lamp. Anyone who know The Duke knows what I'm talking about.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Clearly I have never been as your talking to a "lamp," or "the lamp" - has given me cause for concern regarding your mental health lol
