This is pretty wild.
About 3 weeks ago I got my first straight shave from a barber, then I saw the movie, then I thought, I really liked that shave I wonder if I could do that my self?
I read up on it, asked the barber what he thought, and just ordered my first blade. I have always been a fan of things that are classic in nature and require skill, like metal working, or gun smithing, so I think I am really gonna enjoy straight razor shaving.

Has anyone else observed that vintage straight razors have become much more expensive (on eBay etc) since the release of the film?
Yes, I too have noticed that. It seems before the film came out, you could grab a nice vintage straight razor from $20.00-$40.00. Now, it seem it has almost doubled that. Maybe in a couple of months we will see them back on Ebay because, either the guys will be hacking up their faces or they don't want to take the time to shave with one!! :)Quote:

I bought the movie (didn't make it to the theater), and the straight razor use seemed to fit into the theme of Bond and the 50-year franchise being over the hill. He couldn't pass a fitness test, turns to the bottle, has to get into the original "Bondmobile" to think, go back to his roots to figure a way out of the jam he's in, etc. That's frankly something I didn't like.
The appeal of these Bond movies to me was the fact that he was "hip," always ahead of his time, confident, no concessions to human frailities.
I thought this movie violated all of those things.
Somebody needs to set this young man straight! The rest of us think that James Bond with a straight razor is uber cool, just like we are every morning in the mirror, with our own straight razors.
And I thought it was the best Bond movie in so many years. Excellent mix of retro and new stuff.
LOL! I'm a 57-year-old young man. I like the fact he uses a straight, I just didn't like the fact that he was treated like a has-been. :rofl2:Quote:
