I bought the movie (didn't make it to the theater), and the straight razor use seemed to fit into the theme of Bond and the 50-year franchise being over the hill. He couldn't pass a fitness test, turns to the bottle, has to get into the original "Bondmobile" to think, go back to his roots to figure a way out of the jam he's in, etc. That's frankly something I didn't like.
The appeal of these Bond movies to me was the fact that he was "hip," always ahead of his time, confident, no concessions to human frailities.
I thought this movie violated all of those things.
