My first complete 3 pass and a new revelation all in one night
Well I'm staying at my girlfriends house tonight and I keep a boar brush and cheapy soap I got from CVS for about 10 bucks here. I only used the brush once on the cheap soap and wasn't to happy with it so I brought my shaving supplies from home. I had the idea to give the boar brush another go on my good soap rather than using my pure badger brush. The results were like night and day. The soap lathered like it never has. I was having trouble getting proper lather from my pure badger brush. I think I'll be using boar from now on. Has anyone else had this revelation?? I was feeling so good about my lather I decided to give a 3 pass shave a go. After 7 months my face is finally bbs without one nick.

Congrats.!
I always use a badger and love it. Enjoy the boar if it's what you like.
What does the gf think of your new hobby?“there is the danger that the ignorant man may easily underdose himself and by exposing his microbes to nonlethal quantities of the drug make them resistant.”---Fleming

Thanked: 1195The majority of wetshavers prefer badger, but rest assured there are many dedicated boar users among us as well. It's definitely a preference thing.

I love the way the badger feels but it just can't make lather like the boar. Maybe it's Just my inexperience. My girlfriend is the enabler. She bought me a wet shaving set for my 21st birthday about 7 months ago. I'm a very lucky man.

I use both although I do not have problems lathering with either. My boar bush is alot more stiff and i use it when I feel the need to exfoliate while applying my lather.

Thanked: 0Sometimes it is the soap.......
It seems to me anyway. It seems that some soaps will respond better to the boar becuase the stiffer bristle will allow it to actually pick up more soap.
If I were you, I would keep going back and forth, and on different soaps and see if your preference changes with the soap you use.
Of course, if you are happy with what you are using....stick with it Trying new soaps is part of the fun of the hobby for me, so I have a cabinet full of them

I'm curious to know if its the actual hair you like more or just the stiffness. OR are they both relatively stiff?
I'm a sucker for a stamped tail. Giggity.

Hmm that's a good question. In my hand I can feel a difference between the boar and the badger, on my face they feel the same now that I think about it. But I like that it loads up so well. It probably is my soap though. It's a very hard soap. I'll have to buy more soaps and play with the brushes

Being a harder soap I bet your boar has a bit stiffer bristle seeing as it performs so much better. Keep us updated on your experimenting
