Thanks for all the encouragement and advice. I had my second shave last night and things went a little better. I felt more confident, but still a bit nervous. I got the cheeks, the neck and got around a few curves on the chin. I am definitely a right hand only shaver at this point. I have "0" dexterity with my left hand and I don't want to end up in the emergency room!

First Try at the Straight Last Night
I've only been at it for a week, and in just that little time, I've had huge improvements with each shave. I've even had one up to this point that I'd be willing to go to work with (in the military), but I've been shaving in the evenings where I have more time, then shave regular in the mornings before work. Keep at it, each time you give it a go, you'll improve enough to keep yourself motivated.

Congrats on taking the first step!!! So many guys have straights but will not take that first step. I tell guys to think of moving parallel to their skin rather than the step angles used in DE or cartridge blades. Your confidence will build and you'll get better results. Also at first thinking of "it's good enough" will keep you from over doing things.

You're miles ahead of where I was at the same point in the learning curve. Don't even think about getting a close complete shave at this point. Concentrate on technique and safety.
