When my nose is running I don't even have to lather the mustache area.

I don't bother to shave when I'm that bad, but like kalerolf said, when I feel a bit better a hot shower and a shave puts a whole new shine on the world. It makes you feel that much better again.

    Get well soon mate.

It's been so hot here of late, that I haven't bothered to do much, other than swirl the brush on my face, before swirling it in the soap and commencing to lather up again on the face. Sweating so much, I don't need any additional water for fear of making the lather too thin!
Snot wpuld be far slicker though amd I concede you that point!

Just remember Steve Martin's instructions for keeping a head cold from getting down into your chest: tie a knot in your neck!

    Sorry, old joke..

I have been sick for a week, and as such I did not shave. So I had a weeks worth of growth and when I put the razor to my face it felt like I was ripping my flesh off. Is this normal or should I just not wait so long between shaves?

No, that's not normal at all. A week's growth should literally wipe off your face without any discomfort at all. I'd say your razor isn't sharp enough, your technique isn't up to snuff or both (I daresay).

I'm suffering through a bout of bronchitis. Fancy name for a chest cold I guess. Coughing and spitting up yellow stuff. This has been going on for a week. Got sick and thought I was better and relapsed. Didn't shave today and not sure about tomorrow. Hope me and the OP both get better sooner than later.

You all need to man up. Shaving with a straight is not for the weak. When I get a head cold, the flu, pneumonia, meningitis, near-drowning: that's when I up the ante and shave twice a day, with a semi-blunt straight and I count myself lucky for it!

Pansy! Use a fully blunt straight...or a rusty spoon.
