I can't do ATG on the upper lip for love nor money. There was a guy, Xman, used to post here and did a video doing ATG on the upper lip using both hands to hold the razor. Back a few years ago, when I was in between mustaches for a short time, I tried and gave it up as a lost cause for me, no matter how sharp the razor is.

I did that method twice... The holding razor with both hands trick and going ATG on the mustache. I found there to be some irritation because of it, so I decided to not do it anymore. Going XTG on my mustache does the trick just fine, and leaves me with no irritation...

Don't rush yourself. As others have mentioned, the Coup de Maitre is the way to start a WTG on your upper lip. It takes a mix of confidence that "this is something I can do" and and your comfort level with depending on muscle memory alone to start this stroke.

It was several months before I was willing to give it a try. And more nicks than I care to remember before I developed my muscle memory. I use the Coup de Maitre to start both a WTG and an XTG on my upper lip. Both times removes some stubble but not all. I have to follow them up with an ATG to get my upper lip shaved clean. But that's just my face. Your face is different and you'll figure out what works for you.
