Thanked: 25I will say, and kind of touch on what Chreees has said, that the two razors I had honed by Whipped Dog came back in less that shave ready condition. Unfortunately for me, it wasnt a matter of just needing a touch up on a barbers hone, they had to be completely rehoned. Most of this that I have seen coming out of that shop has been since the Christmas time frame, so if your razor has been purchased since then, perhaps that could be a contributing factor as well. Believe me, the difference between a sort of shave ready razor and a truly shave ready fresh off the hones razor is night and day.

Thanked: 4ok I'll check the honing services offered in the sections. the other question I had for some of the people that have used Larry on his sight unseen razors, not the defective ones but the normal ones. what condition did the razor come in as far as rust and the scales.

Mine came in very good condition, a JA Henckels Twin Works 85. It just had some patina on the blade which I was able to easily remove most of it. Check my shaving journey thread to see pics of it (it's one of the last posts on the thread). You won't be disappointed if you go with a sight unseen, IMO.

I've been stropping and using mine for almost 2 weeks now. I'm sure it's not as sharp as it could be, but it's certainly "shave ready". There is a little rust that had been cleaned off of it, but none near the edge. The scales had been changed, but they look used, so I'm sure it was that way when Larry got it. The pictures from the day I got it are here

Agree w Chreees...my sight unseen was a Crazor, not a Henckle, but came rustic and ready after a good horse hair strop. Ain't pretty...but that's the beauty of it for me
I'm all about peace, just don't piss me off.

Here is a pic of the sight unseen (no flaws) I got from Larry at Whipped Dog:
More than happy with it! I actually really like the patina on it. Gives it character.

Thanked: 4Ok I spoke with Larry yesterday and today. I didn't do a beard thinning pass very well which is probably part of the problem (I had a three day growth). I threw it on the Balsa strop and then gave it a good sixty strops on leather. The thinning pass went well but I still have a lot of skin that looks like stubble so on Larry's advice I'm gonna give it a couple days to let my face heal and then try again, because there was a lot less problem with this shave.

What is a beard thinning pass? I get my best shaves with a 3 day beard and can shave it with one pass.
