Because he had a piece of complete junk and you had money.
And that is as close as I can come to saying what I want to say without actually breaking our no vendor bashing rule.

Cool, thanks man. If you happen to work on it and find something that works well, let me know? As for mine, I'll work on it after I move this Sunday. I'm sure my father-in-law has some stuff that will work in his shop.

Im thinking that once I get my new razor and a little bit of money I might be sending this one to mr. G6guns to get an overhauling (needs new scales and has a bit of a rust issue)

For the record Larry does say that he cleans his razors after sharpening and not much else on the Razor part of the site

Oh I know. That's why when I got it I wasn't too surprised to see the black stuff on the blade. It shaves really well, and I guess that's all that really matters. I dig the look of it now, but think I'm going to work on it a bit more when I move.

Glen seems like the go-to guy for fixing up old razors. Amazing work so far that I've seen. I hope to use his services one day.

Im not trying to bash the guy, but Im going to agree with Bruno here in that Whipped Dog does seem to have the problem of ripping people off to varying degrees. I've seen an awful lot of people very unhappy with the work delivered by Whipped Dog (I wont say Larry directly cause I know he does have others who work for him.)

Gentlemen, the OP mentioned where the razor came from. The main point of the OP was a problem with a razor pulling and the subsequent razor burn.

Let's keep to that topic. Where the razor came from has been discussed to the point where we are getting off topic.

    Thanks for your understanding.

Or... you could add the money you were going to use for restoration to the money you were going to send to Larry, and buy a good razor without having to take the long way of buying a bad one and fixing it up.

    Here's my suggestion.

Go through SRD or somewhere like that and buy a new shave ready razor. One that is guaranteed sharp. Take the time between ordering the razor and its arrival to look in your area for someone who can hone a razor. Once the new razor comes in, see if someone cant hook you up with honing. Alot of the guys on here are really awesome and would probably help you out for little to no money at all. They can also probably give you some tips/tricks/insight into SR shaving.

This route allows you to have a good quality, properly sharpened razor, as well as having the other one and once you get it back you'll be all set up for a while. Thats pretty much what I did.

well comparing the new Boker king cutter that larry sent me and the bowdins are night and day. by all rights a wedge should be mowing more hair easier and its the exact opposite. the Boker just seems sharp when it shaves now i can get the bowdins honed properly grab some polish and knock the last of the rust off the boker And ill be good i think.
